You guys missed Corduroy? Well, this will make you sick then, it was actually Interstellar Overdrive/Corduroy to open the show. No joke.

Another awesome set, Come Back was a huuuuuge surprise, that wasn't actually in regular rotation for their full sets, so I had zero hope of it showing up here. Alive was awesome, McCready playing behind his BACK(not his head, his back) the entire 6-8 minute jam at the end.

The roadies had a tough night I think, apparently Ed launched a guitar back in their direction after he was given the wrong one( I missed it though, but everyoen else in my section saw it), and I saw Mike toss a guitar pick to the crowd during NFY, he turned to get another one, only there weren't any there, he was raising his arms like "What the hell?"...

Hey boys, great show last night. Loved hearing "Light Years" live finally. Maybe not something to rock out to... but i love Ed's voice in there. Come Back was awesome!! better than i thought it would be. Also was huge on Marker in the Sand. My friend who went night 1 wanted to see "Black" i felt bad because last nights version was unreal!! I called him and let the phone sit there during the song. He didn't hang up until it was over, I wonder if it sounded good on the phone.

-Anyway....Here is the story Boys,
After PJ played, we had already decided to leave for Petty. We hung in the lobby for a bit then left. I drove back to White Bear with my frends to get some wings. We ate.. then went to throw some darts at another bar. It was about 12:45 and i had just put a 10 spot in the Juke loaded with PJ. All of the sudden my friend gets a phone call....

It's his friend who is down at Alary's in St.Paul shooting pool nect to....Eddie Vedder!!! We called BS on the story, so he calls back. "No lie" the kid says. We busted ass out of there and headed to St.Paul. Took about 18-20 minutes. When we got there.....Ohhhh yeah, there he was in the back shooting pool. Him, his 6'5'' body guard and some other tall skinny guy named Dick that is like his right hand man on the road i guess. People were staying somewhat clear. There were only maybe 10-18 or so people in the back and me and my 6 friends included. We didn't want to start talking his ear off or anything basically left him alone and hang out.

My friends got in the game of pool next to his table and Eddie was dropping a comment to us every now and again. Line of the night was this:

Some kid we knew who actually played against Eddie earlier was havin fun with him, they were good natured ribbing eachother all night. Anyway, Eddie hits this soft shot and comes up short and misses. The kid says,"my dad does that alot, he hits it too soft and never makes it."
-Eddie walks over looks him in the eye and softly says,"I can see that isn't the only mistake he has made."

hahahahhahah - I was dying, not even cause he said, it was just hilarious.

Later around close he talked a bit more. My friend has been to Australlia shows and the cold East Troy, WI show a few years back. Eddie and Dick each had some fun stories about how cold it was. Saying they had a heater out there for him, but Matts drum guy moved it to face Matt. Some other funny stuff too.
Finally, my friend had a shirt on that said "Same,Same" Eddie said his daughter just said that about some cigarette packs the other day or something. My friend got the shirt in Cambodia, he was just there, so Eddie asks him about that. Then it lead to Eddie asking my friend about his job because he does a Teach for America program. He teaches inner city kids in PHX, AZ. Its like a 2 year commitment....blah blah blah, but Eddie was all into it, really genuinely intrigued. It was like 5-8 conversation after bar close that they talked. Like 15 of us standing there. Then we all got a hand shake as we left. I told him to keep playing "Sad", he kinda smiled.

I have a few phone pictures to prove it. My closest one is his side shot, i can email it too you if you give me your adress. Not sure how to post my own pics. I have a short video too, like 15 seconds, but i have no idea how to get that on here. That is the best i have you can see his face and all. I didn't want to be a psycho so i did all the stuff discreetly so the shots aren't super quality.

All in all a phenominal night. My friends and i were so pumped. Let me know i can send you the 1 pic i have, i will work on getting the video on so i can send that as well.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

That's awesome. I'm even more jealous because I have a similar story, that didin't quite end the way your's did. In 2002, I went to the run of shows at the Excel(Monday night), Chicago(Wednesday night), and Alpine Valley(Saturday night). PJ was suppossed to play Cincy after Chicago, but the venue had flooding so the show was cancelled and the boys stayed in town. Anyway, I went to the Cubs game friday afternoon, and sure enough EV sang Take Me Out To the Ballgame. After the game we bounced from bar to bar around the Wriglyville area for the next 3-4 hours. During that time, my buddy gott three phone calls that he never answered. He said it was an annoying co-worker who'd been bugging him about catching a Cubs game. I thought nothing more of this, until three days later, I'm back in Minnesota and my buddy calls me. Turns out the annoying co-worker that was calling him was playing pool upstairs in the VIP room of the Cubby Bear with EV and Boom. They were there all night and there was never more than 10-15 people in the room, he was calling because he told EV that he had a co-worker who had a buddy in town(me) who was visiting for the PJ shows. EV said call them up and tell them to come over. AUGHHHHHHHHHHHH! I seriously felt sick after hearing this.

So the moral of the story is that I should learn to appreciate annoying coworkers?

It's simply asking too much.

My friend forgot his phone at home, so i can't get the video yet. Its only a 15 second clip or so of him walking around the pool table looking at a shot. I have the picture though.

Here is the pic though.

Looking at San fran flights and they are about $400 or so for the days i need. Not happy about that. Plus the times are awful. It would be easy if i could skip work. Trying to only miss Monday. Fly out Fri, see sat, sun shows, then comeback monday.

Still a longshot but we'll see.

That's killer dude.

I can hang with rockstars and be totally cool.

But then sometimes I drink, like at most rock shows.

So that's another story.

Yeah, I didn't say a heck of alot to him. I just wanted him to feel normal, like were were cool enough to let him be. I think he appreciated that. We were drunk obviously, but we were able to maintain composure. I wish i could have gotten a better shot, but i wasn't gonna be "that guy" asking for a pic or something like that. It still looks good and the vid is a little better.

I would love to score some close floor tickets once. i think that is my next goal. I want to be in there close feeding off the energy. Our seats were good, like row 4 section 103 on Stones side. I just need to have some more enthused fans around. I was mad that the dad and his 12 year old were all about Petty. They sat for quite a while during PJ. I bet the realized we got the best of them when we left after PJ.

After drinking all day at the Cubs game, me meeting Ed would have turned into an episode of The Chris Farley Show. "Remember that time you played Yellow Ledbetter. That was awesome."

Hags, the first show I ever went to was at Summerfest in '95, I was in the third row directly in front of Mike. He smashed his guitar. I jumped to catch a piece that flew over my head and missed it. In the meantime, the chick in front of me caught a significant sized piece with the string still hanging off it. I was a causual fan at the beginning of that day. Look at me now, look at me now. That close is insane. I remember seeing grown(well, college aged) men with tears rolling down their faces, and oddly enough I did not feel the urge to beat the shit out of the pansies. Somehow it seemed like an appropriate reaction.

Thats exactly what i am talking about. I want to be part of the show. That was back in the mosh days too, that must have been pretty wild. I wasn't the biggest PJ fan back in the day either. I knew the hits on the radio and had listened to some albums, but it was my neighbor who was was the fanatic. It was when No Code came out that i really started loving their work. From there I was hooked and have been a die hard since.

Not sure that I would cry, but I can't blame them...

Very cool to hear your stories. I wouldn't even have the sleightest clue what to do if I were to ever meet the band. I might not even be able to speak. All I can say is that I am incredibly jelous of Hagigun, I wish I would've been there. I feel bad as hell for Van. I'm glad I haven't been there. And I can't wait to see the band again. Next time as the headliners. After that there is only one thing left to say: Three cheers for Pearl Jam...The greatest American rock group of all time...
